Beat Gravity Project
BGP was formed in the late 80s by Devin Venable with Todd Dixon just after they left SPY. It was a side project he had been wanting to do as he was interested in acid house music, and that genre didn't really suit SPY. Devin originally talked about collaborating on BGP with a house DJ named Jeff (not Jeff K) who recommended more cowbell on "styrofoam treehouse", but the collaboration was short lived.
Todd Dixon from SPY joined BGP about this time and collaborated with Devin on One World and other BGP tracks. Todd and Devin got into an argument after a trip to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they played a show at SRO. Unfortunately, this would be the last time they worked together.
For the next few years, Devin kept recording as BGP. Mike Scott joined the group briefly, playing electronic drums for live shows. Shortly thereafter, Chris Common A.K.A. DJ Reason joined the band’s live lineup, performing cuts and scratches and other various DJ shenanigans.
BGP played at Clearview several times, including one of the Thud Slap events. They played at Trees, The Factory, and other Dallas area venues. Cybortronik recorded and released a few BGP cassettes and CDs (now out of print) and Devin recorded vocals for a few tracks in David May’s bedroom studio.
The first BGP song was released as an extra track on the last SPY cassette that Todd and Devin put out. Former bandmate David Lee was involved with another new band, Nufenkorp, with David May. BGP self-released a number of cassettes to local record stores in the late 80s and early 90s, including Bill’s Records and Tapes, and appeared on various other cassettes and CD’s. In the early 90s, David Lee and Devin began a techno music project, recording under the name Proxima.
Devin recorded with Liquid 25 on the song Vampyre (The House Piano Riffs), Noise Matrix (a side project of David Lee and David May), and went on to do the bands VORTEX and Waveform, both of which appeared on several Cybortronik releases.

KBD (Kalt Blau Dasien)
KBD (Kalt Blau Dasien), which roughly translates to Cold Blue Existence, was another studio project of electronic musician and producer David May which existed from 1991-2002 and included a revolving cast of guest musicians over its existence.
KBD appeared on Tales From The Edge Volumes Seven & Eight: Arocknophobia! Plus Attacked By The Eight-Legged Groove Machines!!! They performed at the Bomb Factory for KDGE’s release party and played many shows in Dallas, East Texas and Austin with other local acts like Lesson 7 and ITT.
KBD released many cassettes and CDs on Cybortronik. These have all been out of print and not available for years. eMERGENCY heARTS has acquired all the KBD recordings ever. Stay tuned for future releases.
Liquid 25
Liquid 25 was originally formed IN 1990 in Dallas, Texas by David May (KBD, Nufenkorp, CWM) as primary composer and producer. It was a side project that took on a life of its own with three phases, each with different female vocalists and collaborations, by the time of their last release in 2010.
Phase 1 (1990), with vocalist Jody Crisman, released the Beyond Death EP (1991).
Phase II (1992), with vocalist and guitarist Paula Coots, formerly part of Dallas band Psychic Surgery, released a few singles and the EP Wild Orchid and performed a handful of shows before Paula left to pursue other music projects.
Phase III (1993-2010) featured a rotating cast of guest musicians before David closed the chapter on that project after re-locating from Los Angeles to Europe at the turn of the century. The last Liquid 25 song was written in THE Czech Republic in 2010.

Nufenkorp
Nufenkorp was formed in 1988 in Dallas, Texas by David May and David Lee. They had known each other for a long long time and were in three prior bands: B.A.D. (Black Angels of Death) and Winged Assassin, both circa 1986, and MSD (Mind Scalding Degeneration) in 1987. MSD was the first electronic noise synth sampler music they did. It was all analog - no midi - with lots of cv gates and recorded live to tape. Two recordings still exist of it.
The first phase of Nufenkorp was released by eMERGENCY heARTS in 2019 titled Nufenkorp (Extended). This music has been out print since the late 80’s when it was released by CYBORTRONIK on cassette.
Phase 1 Nufenkorp was mostly studio recordings on 4 track which they gave to Jeff K to play on his old show Thudslap: The Voice of Industriality on KNON. Jeff wasn’t the only DJ to take notice of Nufenkorp. Charlie D. Park and his show Who Cares also played them. Nufenkorp even played live on Charlie’s show and wrote an intro song for it. They used Alesis MMT-8 sequencers, Amigas, an FB-01, a CZ-1, and Roland gear.
Phase 2 of Nufenkorp had more gear, and Todd Dixon from SPY & BGP joined the band. In addition to playing with local acts like Lesson 7 and ITT, they also opened up for MC 900 Ft Jesus at the Stark Club in Dallas.
Phase 3 saw many more local shows at legendary clubs like Clearview and The Video Bar. Joining the group live at this time were Edzilla Holland, Eddie Mitzenmeyer, Shoji S, Kevin F, Marci Sloan and Holly. This was the last phase of synth-only music and Nufenkorp. David and David both played guitar and, due to the popularity of Ministry using heavy guitars in their music, decided to move in a new direction. They changed their name to Demolition League and added heavy guitars on a few songs from the old Nufenkorp archives.
Demolition League released one CD (out of print) that was recorded in a 16 track studio in Dallas on CYBORTRONIK and played many shows in Austin and Dallas up to their end in 1991.

A Sound Mind
A Sound Mind was a Dallas based techno-industrial band that existed circa 1991-1992 with members Jason Pottorff (Jazzyspoon), Chris Common, and Greg Chard.
SPY
SPY was a techno-industrial band that existed in Dallas, Texas from 1987-1990. Consisting of David Lee (synths, programming), Devin Venable (percussion, programming) and Todd Dixon (vocals, synths), the trio self-released two limited edition cassettes, The Resurrection (1988) and SPY (1990) before disbanding.
SPY’s version of Ministry’s “All Day” and Berlin’s “Metro”, both recorded in the 80s, have gained a cult following over the intervening years. SPY often performed with other Texas industrial acts such as Lesson Seven, Audio Assault, and International Thief Thief. Members of SPY moved on to new bands like Beat Gravity Project (Devin & Todd) and Nufenkorp (David Lee & Todd).
Tanz Waffen
Tanz Waffen was born of the ashes of an Austin band called Secret Six (which in turn had been born of Jesse Sublett's band The Skunks, with some help from Jeff Campbell and his band Almost Anyone, featuring Jeff and the late Gary Guthrie) in Austin, Texas sometime around 1984. The band name, occasionally a source of controversy, means “Dance Weapons”, translated from it's German origins. They were fortunate enough to hook up with Razormaid Records and release 4 songs, remixed by Joseph Watt.
In 1986, Tanz Waffen met the band Mark Of Kane, with whom they formed lasting friendships and played many shows together, engineering each others’ sound, and eventually merged into one band in 1991 called Voodoo Dali. In 1988, they met, befriended and eventually toured with the new wave star Lene Lovich (both opening for her as well as being her backing band).
